The Director's Profile

Ibrahim has received his PhD from Imperial College, University Of London, and his MSc. in Geology from Western Michigan University, USA and his BSc in Geology and Chemistry from King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia . 

 

He has served 25 years in Saudi Aramco in Petroleum Geology related work, worked as Geologist in several areas including: well site operations, fields' development, mapping, and reservoir predictions.  He has worked with Eprco Exxon research Centre in Houston. He has been keen in digitizing technology and worked since 1999 in core description digitizing and was awarded a patent in 2008 on core-voice recognition digitizing device with his colleagues.

  

Ibrahim’s PhD dissertation was in the Khuff Formation, its depositional environments, diagenesis, reservoir characteristics,  log/facies characteristics and reservoir prediction in Ghawar Field. He later extended the reservoir prediction studies of the Khuff to include Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Countries. 

 

For two years, he lead a team of  Sedimentologists, Palynologists, Stratigraphers and Geophysicists to develop the first subsurface fully integrated Geological study of the Jauf Formation, North of Ghawar area and was the principal author of its report.

 

He has held several management positions, at Saudi Aramco, the last two positions were the Chief Geologist of Southern area fields, including Ghawar field, and the Chief Geologist of Geological Research & Development in Saudi Aramco.

 

Ibrahim initiated the GEO 94 while he was the president of the Dhahran Geosciences Society (DGS) in 1991. He represented Saudi Aramco in the ADIPEC for several years. He organized the first focused regional Khuff workshop in the region in 2007 and the Paleozoic Clastic Gas Reservoirs workshop addressing the challenges of their predictions and tight gas in the Gulf, 2009, both workshops had core displays, posters and oral presentations.
